Alberto M. R. Paranhos

Economista Urbano l Urban Economist

Compõe a equipe Jaime Lerner Arquitetos Associados em Curitiba desde 2019, atuando em projetos de desenvolvimento territorial e planejamento urbano de diferentes escalas a partir de iniciativas tanto públicas quanto privadas, e em vários estados brasileiros, como São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais e Bahia.

Urban economist graduated from UFPR in 1969, with 2.5 years of postgraduate studies in Economics at the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and specialization in urban growth management (World Bank Institute for Economic Development).
He worked for 9 years as an advisor and then Director of Information at the Institute for Research and Urban Planning of Curitiba – IPPUC and 6 years as resident consultant for the World Bank and other funding agencies. He applied for the UN in 1993, having worked 17 years at UN-Habitat, the UN agency for the City, Housing, Urban Services and Local Governments, as an advisor and later as Regional Deputy Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
He lived in several countries, always dealing with public policies and projects of urban development and city management, as well as decentralization and strengthening of local governments.
He retired from the UN in 2010 and has worked as a consultant on planning for sustainable urban development in Brazil and abroad.
He performs various “pro-bono” activities in social volunteering. Since February 2017,he provides technical advisory services to IPPUC.
