Projeto Nova Luz

São Paulo - SP, Brazil

The proposal is the result of an initiative of the NGO São Paulo Minha Cidade and SECOVI-SP, focusing on the "Nova Luz" region. It is the result of a series of discussions with public and private actors, especially EMURB, Jaime Lerner Arquitetos Associados and EPIGRAM, and seeks to incorporate in its premises most of the municipal guidelines and studies developed for the area. The "cracolândia" region materializes, in its territory of 24 blocks, challenging aspects of the reality of the largest city in South America, with deleterious effects on its image and the quality of life in the center. A "New Light", based on the remarkable cultural potential of the region, on the present references of history and memory, on the valorization of public spaces, on the promotion of social diversity, on the strengthening of economic vocations, and on a new and expressive architectural reference, made possible by an equation of co-responsibility in which public power, civil society and private initiative interact.
