Projeto Básico do Sistema de Transporte Público e Soluções para o Sistema Viário de Patos de Minas

2024

Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais - Brasil

Focusing on building an integrated vision for the future of Patos de Minas, the work contracted by the Municipal Government in 2023 developed guidelines for three fundamental areas: urban macrostructure, road system, and public bus transportation.
The macrostructuring proposal established the vectors for the city's expansion and densification based on the integration of land use, mobility, and the environment. A green infrastructure network was designed to serve as a structuring element for future subdivisions, articulating urban, road, and transportation guidelines. This logic guided the definition of strategic axes—density, growth, and services—that will guide the municipality's development.
As a result of this planning, urban acupuncture interventions were proposed, such as the redevelopment of Getúlio Vargas Avenue and José de Santana Street, the revitalization of the Municipal Market, and the implementation of a new urban bus terminal.
In the road system, solutions were developed for traffic safety and flow: implementation of dual carriageways, reconfiguration of geometries at conflict points, signage, regulation of loading and unloading, rotating parking, and a new bicycle network. The actions were organized into short- and medium-term phases.
Proposals for public transportation sought to increase the attractiveness of the bus system, with measures such as: improvement of the ticketing system, provision of shelters, expansion of the central terminal, subsidized reduced fares and, in the medium term, a new network of lines, separation of urban school transportation, and implementation of exclusive lanes in the city center.
