SECOVI: City of São Paulo - Contributions for its Sustainable Urban Development
São Paulo City, São Paulo
2010
This project was the result of a demand from the private sector for the JLAA to envisage how the metropolis could develop in a more sustainable manner. The main focus of the study was to devise an integrated structure of life, work, leisure and mobility capable of resulting in important gains in terms of quality of life. The guiding thread of the proposal was the train lines and their main intersection points with other nodes of the transit network, and how these territories, currently with a stigma of “backyards” could be transformed in the backbone to guide the future development of São Paulo. The resulting design is set upon the prioritization of public transport and soft modes of displacement, the valuation of public areas, the better balance of urban functions and the equalization of the access to the city – its cultural facilities, job opportunities and so on – in order to build a metropolis with no periphery.
