The work for the municipality of Santos was made possible by a partnership with Comunitas, within the program Together for Sustainable Development, having been Jaime Lerner Arquitetos Associados selected as technical partner. The leadership of the project is the Municipal Government, within the objective of building a vision of the future for Santos 500 years.

The guidelines and strategic projects are structured around three main themes: recovery of the central area, including the many connections between Porto and the city; vocações for the continental area; e popular moradia.

The main areas of renovation of the center are in the Cais do Valongo region, with a view to recovering two historical frameworks, reconnecting with the line of water and the potential transfer of the cruise terminal; o Monte Serrat, reference to the landscape based on the valorization of its viewpoint and the opportunities for connecting with the city through its climbs; e o complex of the Municipal Market, Bacia das Catraias e a Cultural Moldura, which with its unique landscape can be an emblem that gives value to the center as a right to dispose of housing and economic opportunities. A qualification of connections, such as the example of Rua Modelo, or the protection of two historic drainage channels such as linear parks, or an increase in the offer of public transport and integration of its modalities, a updating of public lighting and landscaping is combined for the Velho Center , Centro Novo, Centro Vivo.

In the continental area, the valuation of its environmental and economic potential, based on the natural and built heritage present in the Serra do Mar, not a study of its canais, ribeirinhas communities and historical elements; e do complex port, industrial and logistics that is thriving in the region.

A room, in a potential “Morar Santos” program, works with occupations in stilt houses, hills and cottages in three vertentes: Dwell Stilt houses, Dwell Encostas and Morar Centro, each with its own maintenance and innovation elements, which seek to respect the particularities of each community and advance in the melhoria of their living conditions and opportunities of integration as a formal city.
