Preliminary Urbanistic Plan “Granja Werneck”
Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais - Brazil
2010
In a 3,500,000sqm, the “Granja Werneck” is one of the last empty areas of the city of Belo Horizonte. Located in the north part of the city, the region has undergone deep transformations with the implementation of governmental strategic projects such as the “Linha Verde” – a connection road between the downtown area and the Confins airport –, and the Administrative Center of the State of Minas Gerais – CAMG. The occupation plan is part of “Operação Urbana do Isidoro”, an instrument provided by the municipal masterplan for the implementation of special urban projects in empty areas within the Ribeirão Isidoro water catchment area. The proposed masterplan balances the environmental restrictions of the site and the need to create a new centrality for this part of the city, including a range of different uses, areas dedicated to institutional, community and cultural facilities, urban parks and recreational areas. The project also incorporates municipal guidelines and the integration with the urban and metropolitan public transportation systems.
