Bossa Nova Museum
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
2008/2009
The Bossa Nova Museum is located at Leblon, an especial neighborhood in the city of Rio de Janeiro, home of many of our most reputable musicians, writers and poets. In a piece of land formerly occupied by a police battalion, a new showcase for Brazilian culture and art will be built, with its focus on the Bossa Nova music. It is a project that opens itself up to the city, inviting the entrance through a major plaza that surrounds the building, enriched by a careful landscape design project. The building itself, comprising 5,000m², pays tribute to the very especial expression of Brazilian culture, reposing gracefully on the terrain as the keys of a piano keyboard. Its design aims at reflecting, as the lyrics of Tom Jobim’s Girl from Ipanema would say “a sweet swing on the way to the sea”.
